.my DOMAIN REGISTRY Research & Development Projects

For the research and development (R&D) related to the IPv6 networking technology and the application technology on IPv4/IPv6 network, .my DOMAIN REGISTRY is engaged particularly in the areas of DNS and transition to IPv6. Registration of .my domain name server IPv6 address (dns.mynic.net.my, 2001:328:1000:3::5) has been submitted to IANA on 19th August 2008 and has been delegated completely. IPv6 enabled registry system aims to be launched in conjunction with National Innovation, Conference and Exhibition (NICE) 2008 scheduled in early November 2008. More about IPv6...

DNS Security Extensions (DNSSEC) is another R & D focus point and .my DOMAIN REGISTRY plans to open its DNSSEC trial in January 2009. The deployment of DNSSEC is a critical step towards securing cyberspace because virtually every Internet application relies on the reliable operation of DNS services, the lack of source authentication and data integrity checking in DNS operations leaves nearly all Internet services vulnerable to attacks. ENUM - One number for all services, where .my DOMAIN REGISTRY also pledge to active and now under way, to match phone numbers with Internet addresses by using DNS. ENUM would enable MY. citizens to communicate both voice and text messages through one number that is enough to reach someone not only at their home or mobile telephone but also over a fax machine or even at an e-mail address or through a webpage. IP Anycast technology allows an IP address that is usually assigned to a specific node on the Internet (a server and a router etc.) to be assigned to multiple nodes that provide the same service. .my DOMAIN REGISTRY signed a memorandum of understanding with Internet Systems Consortium Inc (ISC) that led to the deployment and operations of a new mirror version of the F-root server in Malaysia in May 2008. What this means for organizations and individuals is that with the server in place, the online community can experience a faster query response launched on the Web. IP Anycast technology will also be introduced to the MY DNS to create more robust and fault-tolerant system and also to enable the assignment of one IP address to multiple DNS servers. Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs) are domain names or web addresses, represented by local language characters. IDNs enable more web users to navigate the Internet in their preferred script and more companies to maintain one brand identity in many scripts. Most domain names are registered in ASCII characters (A to Z, 0 to 9 and the hyphen "-"). However, non-English words that require diacritics such as Spanish and French and languages that use non-Latin scripts such as Kanji and Arabic cannot be rendered in ASCII. As a result, millions of Internet users struggle to find their way online using non-native scripts and languages. IDNs improve the accessibility and functionality of the Internet by enabling domain names in non-ASCII characters. Now domain name may be registered in as many as 350 different native languages.
